False gods Of Today

The approach to the first commandment in modern times would have us believe that money, sexuality, and other material things are the false gods of today. Historical gods, they say, consisted of statues and structures. People would sacrifice and devote themselves to these gods in hopes of reward.

To pretend that money, power and wealth are ‘new’ false gods is ludicrous. And to act as if the historical forms of idolatry aren’t alive today is a mistake…one that’s already cost the Catholic Church thousands of members.

No, people no longer hold rituals to worship these modern idols, but they still worship them…and they still offer sacrifice to them.

Anything that attributes something of God to something other than god is idolatry. That could mean a lot of things, but one of the most common forms of it is being taught in schools throughout the US (even in the Catholic schools). We call it evolution.

Evolution

Evolution attributes creation to random events and circumstances…sometimes to nature itself. It undermines the divine plan by which we were brought into this world.

The ‘Catholic’ argument for teaching evolution in the school system is that it’s possible for God to choose any means He prefers to create the world…and that the evidence points to God using evolution. As long as we ignore the lack of evidence for evolution, it might sound kosher. Perhaps the theory of evolution would be acceptable…if not for one small thing – The theory of evolution is based on the assumption that the universe, life, and man would create themselves (and continue to improve their existence) without God’s direction.

If a man wants to say that God took millions of years to develop His millions of species, then let him say it. But to say that the millions of species ‘evolved’ through God’s intervention, and then masking it as a Christian form of a Pagan theory is nonsense. It’s like claiming a hamburger evolved from a cow.

As if one thing led to another, and then we, by chance, ended up with ground meat on a grill…what a marvelous development. But the cow was born for the sake of making hamburgers. The burgers are what started the process…from bull and heifer, to calf, to slaughter house, it was all in the plan. If there was no desire for the meat, there would have been
no reason for the cow.

So it is with Genesis. God’s creation was not by accident. He did not progress by way of ideas. He did not progress…seeing that one species was dying, and changing it to something more suitable to climate. His original intention was to create something in His own image and likeness. The spectacular creature no more evolved than the hamburger did.

But Evolution is only one of many modern idols. Some are more subtle in their approach, but are just as dangerous. In fact, one of them is responsible for millions of human sacrifices…and we call it Atheism.

Atheism

Some don’t consider this a religion, but try attacking an
atheist’s beliefs, and you’ll see all the conviction that is truly inherent in a religion. What’s more, the atheist is in every way as evangelistic as the Christian…if not more so.

To the atheist, mankind is god. They believe that man’s destiny is in his own hands…that his state is for him to decide, for him to govern, and for him to evolve. We sometimes see it taking form in the political arena under the guise ‘separation of church and state’.

This form of idolatry is not only the most elusive, but the most destructive. In man’s attempt to shape his future, in his attempt to preserve the race, he murders the race. Not one or two, but by the dozen, the hundreds, the millions.

Abortion became legal because someone convinced the public that a young woman is better off when she’s not forced to become a mother. She should have the freedom to shape her own future. This cheapening of life took root. Experimental slaughter became common practice…all in the name of discovering diseases, and bettering our lives.

Five years ago, Christians pointed to the millions of lives that abortion had taken. If they included the in-vitro embryos destroyed in labs around the world, the number would be too large for the mind to accept. It would stagger our sense of justice…leaving us with only two possible thoughts – That something so abundant just couldn’t be evil…or that mankind can only expect a proportionately terrible punishment.
